Valletta the commercial and administrative center and the capital of Malta may be one of the smallest capitals of Europe but it is a very fascinating and interesting city. It is named after Jean Parisot de la Valette, the founder of the city. Valletta has a wealthy history and has many historical buildings, some are even from 16th century. UNESCO officially recognized the city as World Heritage site in 1980. The city not only has historical buildings but also modern architecture. Despite being small, it has over 25 churches with St. John's Co-Cathedral being one of the most prominent churches. Another must visit building is the Grand Master's Palace which was also built in 16th century but was enhanced later. The city not only has magnificent buildings but also some excellent restaurants and cafes. Valletta also has some beautiful gardens and hosts a colorful carnival in February or March. Valletta is surely one of the best tourist destinations in Malta. The city is famously called "a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen".

    This magnificent church was built in 16th century and was enhanced further in 17th century. It is one of the most beautiful churches in the world.
